Common issues while using Theta (THETA) and Theta Fuel (TFUEL) and how to fix them.

Need a crypto wallet that gives you full control of your assets? You can download Exodus here.

In this article:

What is Theta (THETA)?

Theta Labs teams created THETA in 2018. It was first launched as an ERC20 token on the Ethereum network. Since then, Theta migrated to its own blockchain protocol.

Theta (THETA) is the governance token of the Theta protocol, which means the tokens themselves represent voting power and can be used to validate or produce blocks in the blockchain.

What is Theta Fuel (TFUEL)?

Theta Fuel (TFUEL) is the secondary token for the Theta blockchain. Theta Fuel (TFUEL) is used to pay transaction fees and for deploying and interacting with smart contracts on the Theta network.

You can earn TFUEL by supporting your favorite streams. For every minute you watch streams on the Theta.tv platform, you support your favorite content creator as well as earn TFUEL rewards. For more information, please check out the THETA.tv official FAQ section.

Paying for Theta transactions with Theta Fuel

All Theta (THETA) transactions require Theta Fuel (TFUEL). To send or swap THETA, you will need to have some TFUEL in your Exodus wallet.

You can easily get some TFUEL by swapping any assets in your wallet for TFUEL or by receiving TFUEL from another wallet.

How to recover mainnet Theta sent to an ETH/ERC20 address?

This guide will show you how to recover mainnet Theta sent to your Ethereum (ETH) or ERC20 address:

Mobile

You will need to use a computer that you trust to perform the below steps.

  1. First, download Exodus on a computer that you trust.

  2. Next, sync your Mobile wallet with your Desktop wallet. You can do this by following our guide: How do I sync Exodus Mobile to Exodus Desktop?

  3. Now, follow the Desktop instructions below to recover your THETA sent to your Ethereum address.

Desktop

  1. First, you will need to send some TFUEL to the Ethereum address that you have accidentally sent THETA to. This is because you will need TFUEL to pay for the network transaction fee to send your THETA out of your Ethereum address.

  2. Open up your Ethereum wallet inside of your Exodus wallet (where you sent the THETA tokens).

  3. Copy your Ethereum private key from Exodus following our guide: How do I view my private keys?

Please be very careful with your private keys because they control access to your funds. Never share them with anyone, and only import them into platforms that you trust 100%. If you choose to import your private keys into a third-party platform, you do so at your own risk. To find out more, check out this article from our Knowledge Base: How do I keep my money safe?

  4. Once enabled, open your THETA wallet. In the top right-hand corner, a) click on the More menu, then b) click Move Funds.

  5. a) Paste your Ethereum private key from step 3, and b) click Move Funds.

This process will include a network fee which is paid in TFUEL.

  6. Next, to recover the TFUEL you sent to your Ethereum address in step 1, go to your TFUEL wallet and repeat steps 5 and 6. In your TFUEL wallet, click the More menu, then select Move funds paste in your Ethereum private, and click Move funds.

And you are done! Your Exodus wallet will scan all THETA on your Ethereum private key and move it to your new Exodus THETA wallet.
