Why might I need to export a .eml file?

If you have reported a suspected phishing attempt to Exodus Support, you may be asked to export a .eml file of the suspicious email so that Exodus Support can safely inspect the email you have received.

A .eml file contains email messages, email file attachments, and email metadata, which is information about the email. File attachments are encoded in text format.

Because the .eml file contains all the email content in text format, it can be helpful when investigating suspicious emails. By having the email content in text format the content can be viewed without the risk of clicking or opening malicious links or attachments.

The .eml file contains information about your email address, but no personal information that could put your email account at risk, such as your password.
