How to buy USDC

Stablecoins have been acting as a portal to crypto adoption with the result that they’ve seen significant usage themselves. Here we’ll review one of the leading stablecoins, USD Coin, in terms of the various ways that are available to you to buy USDC.

Just before we delve into your options of how to buy USDC coin and where to buy USDC Coin, here’s a short refresher and update on the project.

    What is USD Coin (USDC)?

USD Coin or USDC is an open source, smart contract-based stablecoin run by Centre - a consortium of crypto exchange Coinbase and financial technology company Circle. It’s fully backed by US dollars or other fully reserved assets, which are held in segregated accounts with financial institutions regulated in the United States.

Although primarily available on the Ethereum blockchain, the stablecoin has been moving steadily towards a multi-chain presence. It is also available on the Algorand, Avalanche, Solana, Stellar and TRON blockchains with plans to  launch on Arbitrum, Cosmos, NEAR, Optimism and Polkadot.

Competition in the stablecoin market is heating up. Binance took the decision to forcibly convert USDC (and some other stablecoins) to its own US dollar stablecoin - BUSD. Circle co-founder and CEO Jeremy Allaire hit back by saying that BUSD has little use outside of the Binance platform. He also took a side swipe at the largest stablecoin by market cap, Tether, stating that “USDT is not cash equivalent - not even close.”

Polygon is a layer two network or sidechain that runs alongside the Ethereum blockchain as a way to increase the amount of transactions it can handle. Through its wallet applications, Exodus enables you to buy USDC via Polygon - thus saving on transaction fees.

When you choose to either buy USDC with fiat currency or you choose to swap another digital asset in your Exodus wallet for it, make sure to select USDC with the Polygon symbol next to it - as the asset you want to buy/swap to. This way, you will receive your USDC within the Exodus wallet and on the Polygon network - avoiding those pesky transaction fees.

And then you can use your USDC in applications across the Polygon ecosystem! And that’s a wrap!
