How do I update the firmware on my Trezor?

Updating the firmware on your Trezor hardware wallet can be done directly from Exodus Desktop.

If Exodus detects that your Trezor's firmware is out of date, it will not connect. Instead, Exodus will prompt you to update the firmware.

The steps will be a little different if you have a Trezor Model T or a Trezor Model One.

Before continuing, make sure you have your Trezor's secret recovery phrase. The data on your Trezor could be erased if you are updating from an older firmware version, or if your Trezor loses the connection while updating. If this happens, the only way you will be able to recover your Trezor wallet is with its secret recovery phrase.

  1. If the firmware on your Trezor needs to be updated, you will see a prompt when you connect your Trezor to Exodus.

  2. First, ensure your Trezor is disconnected. You can do this by unplugging the USB cable.

  3. To start the update reconnect your Trezor to Exodus using the USB cable while swiping your finger up and down on the Trezor touchscreen. Doing this before the lock screen appears will enable bootloader mode, which will allow you to update your firmware.

  4. Tap the green checkmark on the Trezor screen to enable bootloader mode.

  5. You will now see a pop-up screen in Exodus. Click Continue.

  6. Before updating the firmware, a) click the checkboxes to confirm that you have your Trezor secret recovery phrase, and that you have closed any other apps that might be using Trezor. To start installing the firmware, b) click Update Now.

  7. On the Trezor screen, tap the green checkmark to update the firmware. Wait for the Trezor to install the firmware update. Do not unplug your Trezor during the installation, as it could erase your Trezor wallet or damage your device.

  8. When the firmware is updated, your Trezor will restart. After it restarts, enter your PIN to connect your Trezor. This will confirm that the firmware update was successful.

And done! The firmware is now updated. To learn more about how to use Trezor with Exodus, see our guide: Getting started with Exodus and Trezor.
