How to recover KCC-pegged tokens sent to your Exodus wallet!

How is it possible to send to the wrong address?

The KuCoin Community Chain (KCC) was developed by fan communities of the KuCoin exchange and its native KuCoin Token (KCS). This decentralized public chain was designed to enable faster transactions with more cost-effective network fees. However, while using KCC can help reduce network fees when moving Ethereum-based assets, it's important to note that currently, Exodus doesn't support the KCC network.

KCC is fully compatible with Ethereum and ERC-20 smart contracts, and is currently supported at the KuCoin exchange. What this means is that it's possible to withdraw Ethereum (ETH) or another Ethereum-based asset to your Exodus wallet using the KCC network.

Sending an Ethereum-based asset using the KCC network will get the asset to the destination address, but it won't be visible in your Exodus wallet because the KCC network isn't supported. Not to worry, as the guides below will help you retrieve KCC-pegged tokens sent to your Exodus and Trezor ETH wallets!

KCC-pegged token sent to Exodus Mobile

Retrieving your KCC-pegged tokens will require the use of a desktop computer and MetaMask.

Next, write down your mobile wallet's 12-word secret recovery phrase. To find this, please see this guide.

These 12-words are your master key for your wallet. It is incredibly important for you to keep your 12-word phrase safe as it is the only way to recover your funds should something happen to your wallet. Now you will need to restore your mobile wallet to the desktop wallet you just downloaded. To do this, please read this guide.

The rest of the instructions are the same as above in the KCC-pegged token sent to Exodus desktop section.

If you do not have access to a trusted computer, you can retrieve your mainnet KCC tokens with your 12-word secret recovery phrase and the MetaMask mobile app.

This process is not recommended unless you do not have a trusted desktop computer, as it exposes your Exodus 12-word secret recovery phrase. Desktop methods only use the private key of one asset, which is far more secure. Go to MetaMask's website and install the mobile MetaMask wallet. Tap on Import using Secret Recovery Phrase.

Enter your Exodus 12-word secret recovery phrase with a space between each word. Set a strong password and tap Import.

Next, tap the three bars at the top left of your screen.

Tap Settings.

Tap Networks.

Tap the Add Network button.

Then, copy and paste these details in the relevant sections:
a) Network Name: KCC mainnet
b) RPC: https://rpc-mainnet.kcc.network
c) ChainID: 321
d) Symbol: KCS
e) Block Explorer: https://scan.kcc.network

Then tap Add.

If you sent KCS over the KuCoin Community Chain, it should now appear in your MetaMask wallet. However, if you sent a different token you will need to go to the bottom of the MetaMask wallet and tap on Import tokens.

After you tap on Import tokens you will see you need to find the Token Contract Address. To find the contract address all you need to do is:
  1. Open the KCC token list, find the token you accidentally sent, and tap on it.
  2. Under Profile Summary in the top right you will see Contract, then copy the contract address.

Next, back in MetaMask, paste in the contract address and the rest of the information should appear by itself. Then tap Import.

You should now see your token appear.

Finally, send your tokens back to the original address where you sent them from!

You'll need some KCS on the KuCoin Community Chain network in the wallet before moving your funds out of MetaMask.

KCC-pegged token sent to Exodus Desktop

MetaMask is a third-party platform that is not affiliated with Exodus. As such, Exodus cannot guarantee the performance of its products/services or that the steps shown and the information provided will always be accurate.

Go to MetaMask's website and download the MetaMask wallet.

Next, please open your Exodus wallet, and open the asset wallet that you accidentally sent the funds to over the KCC network.

Export the private key from the wallet inside of Exodus. Here's how you can obtain your private key: How do I view my private keys?

Open MetaMask and import your Ethereum private key by clicking on Import Account.

After importing your private key, a) click on Ethereum Mainnet at the top of the MetaMask wallet screen and b) select Add Network.

Your browser will open a new tab in which you can copy and paste these details in the relevant sections:
a) Network Name: KCC-Mainnet
b) RPC: https://rpc-mainnet.kcc.network
c) ChainID: 321
d) Symbol: KCS
e) Block Explorer: https://explorer.kcc.io/en

Next, you will want to copy your token's contract address. Here's how to find it:

a) Copy and paste your transaction ID into this KCC block explorer: https://explorer.kcc.io

b) Click on the asset's ticker.

c) Copy the contract address.

Now please open MetaMask and go to the bottom and click on Import tokens.

Paste your token's contract address that you copied in step 8 into the Token Contract Address field. The rest of the fields will automatically populate. Then, click on the Add Custom Token button.

You should now see your tokens appear, just click Import Tokens.

After your tokens appear, you can send them back to KuCoin.

You'll need to hold some KuCoin Tokens (KCS) in order to pay the gas fee required for sending your KCC-pegged token to your exchange. KCS can be acquired from KuCoin, and should be sent to your MetaMask wallet using the KCC network.

Finally, send your tokens from KuCoin to your Exodus wallet using the ERC20 network.
