How to recover unsupported Cronos tokens sent to Exodus.

Need a crypto wallet that gives you full control of your assets? You can download Exodus here.

In this article:

How is it possible to send on the wrong network?

It is possible to accidentally choose the Cronos network when withdrawing assets to your Exodus wallet address.

The Cronos network is a decentralized, open-source blockchain developed by Crypto.com. Exodus currently only supports receiving Cronos (CRO) on the Cronos network, and custom Cronos tokens are only supported on Exodus Mobile.

If you have sent unsupported Cronos tokens to Exodus Desktop, it is possible to retrieve your tokens by syncing to Exodus Mobile or with MetaMask.

How do I recover tokens sent on the Cronos network?

Token sent to Exodus Mobile

If you have sent a Cronos token to Exodus Mobile and do not see it in the wallet, then you can add it as a custom token.

For more information on how to add custom Cronos tokens, see: How do I add a custom token?

Token sent to Exodus Desktop

Currently, Exodus Desktop does not support custom CRO tokens. If you have sent a Cronos token to Exodus and don't see it in your wallet, then you can sync your Desktop wallet to Exodus Mobile and add it as a custom token:

  1. To sync Exodus Desktop to Mobile, follow the steps in this guide: How do I sync Exodus Desktop to Exodus Mobile?

  2. After syncing, you can add the CRO token as a custom token in Exodus Mobile: How do I add a custom token?

If you don't have access to a mobile device, then you can recover your CRO tokens with MetaMask. Here's how:

  1. Go to MetaMask's website and download the MetaMask wallet.

MetaMask is a third-party platform that is not affiliated with Exodus. As such, Exodus cannot guarantee the performance of its products/services or that the steps shown and the information provided will always be accurate.

  2. Next, open your Exodus wallet and open the asset wallet that you accidentally sent the unsupported Cronos token to.

  3. Export the private key from the wallet inside of Exodus. Here's how you can obtain your private key: How do I view my private keys?

  4. Open MetaMask and import your private key by clicking on Import Account.

Please be very careful with your 12-word secret recovery phrase and private keys, because they control access to your funds. Never share them with anyone, and only import them into platforms that you trust 100%. If you choose to import your secret recovery phrase or private keys into a third-party platform, you do so at your own risk. To find out more, check out this article from our Knowledge Base: How do I keep my money safe?

  5. After importing your private key, a) click on Ethereum Mainnet at the top of the MetaMask wallet screen and b) select Add Network.

  6. Your browser will open a new tab in which you can copy and paste these details in the relevant sections:
    a) Network Name: Cronos
    b) RPC: https://evm-cronos.crypto.org
    c) ChainID: 25
    d) Symbol: CRO
    e) Block Explorer: https://cronos.crypto.org/explorer/

    Then click Save.

  7. Next, you will need to add the token you want to recover. Go to the bottom of the MetaMask wallet and tap on Import tokens.

  8. After you click on Import tokens you will see you need to find the Token Contract Address. To find the contract address all you need to do is:

    1. Open the Cronos token list and search for the asset you accidentally sent and click on it.

    2. Next, copy the contract address for the token by clicking the copy icon.

  9. Next, back in MetaMask, just paste in the contract address and the rest of the information should appear by itself. Then click Add Custom Token.

  10. Your tokens will appear. Click Import Tokens.

  11. Finally, send your tokens back to the original address where you sent them from!

You'll need some Cronos (CRO) in the wallet on the Cronos network before you can move your funds out of MetaMask. You can use this Coinmarketcap list to find where to purchase some.
