What is Lido?

Lido is a liquid staking solution and supports staking crypto like Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Polygon (MATIC).

Normally, once your crypto is staked, it cannot be transacted. This forces you to choose between staking your crypto or using it.

With liquid staking, when you stake on Lido, you are given a tokenized version of your staked funds. You can then use your crypto in DeFi protocols that offer services such as lending, collateral, trading, and more, all while continuing to earn rewards from the staked funds.

The price of Lido's staked tokens track the price of their original counterpart on a 1:1 basis. Because Lido is non-custodial, your assets remains under your control.

The Lido protocol is completely open source and its code has been audited and secured. In addition to that, the participating validators have been vetted, and the dApp is governed by a DAO.

Before interacting with Lido, be sure to read more on dApp bugs in our Knowledge Base article: Safety and security for DeFi and Web3.

For more information on Lido and how to use it, you can also read through their documentation.

Are there fees for using Lido?

You can connect to and disconnect from Lido without any fees. However, staking through Lido will incur a network transaction fee, also known as a gas fee. These fees can vary depending on network traffic.

Additionally, Lido charges a 10% staking fee from earned rewards. This fee goes to the Lido DAO, the staking validators, and the Lido cover fund.

How do I unstake ETH from Lido?

Currently, unstaking your staked ETH (stETH) is not possible. The option to unstake directly from Lido will be available once withdrawals are enabled on the beacon chain.

In the meantime, since your stETH remains liquid, you can swap it for ETH using Exodus Swap in Web3 Wallet, or send it to a centralized exchange to exchange it for either ETH or a different asset.

By swapping stETH for ETH, you can effectively unstake your stETH.
