What is Passkeys Wallet by Exodus?
The Passkeys Wallet by Exodus is a self-custody multi-chain wallet that allows developers to embed a crypto wallet into their dApp or platform.
When you create a Passkeys Wallet, it's managed with a passkey secured by the Face ID, Touch ID, PIN, or password you use to unlock your device.
This means you can create, connect, and access a crypto wallet directly from a platform like a dApp without downloading and installing anything, without an account, without email or SMS verification, and without needing to remember or write down your private keys or 12-word secret recovery phrase.
You can connect the same wallet to any platform supporting Passkeys Wallet. All you need is your device with the passkey. To access your wallet, you will be prompted to unlock it with your Face ID, Touch ID, PIN, or password.

How does Passkeys Wallet work?
When you create a Passkeys Wallet, your device generates its private keys locally.
Your private keys are then encrypted using an encryption key provided by Exodus. This encrypted version of your private keys is then stored as a digital key, also known as a passkey.
This passkey is secured with the same authentication method (Face ID, Touch ID, PIN, or password) you use to unlock your device.
Whenever you want to access your Passkeys Wallet, your wallet requests the encryption key from Exodus and uses that, in combination with your passkey, to decrypt your private keys.
To access your wallet on any supported platform, you just need the device with your passkey.
Passkeys Wallet FAQs
How do I ensure access to my Passkeys Wallet?
To ensure that you always have access to your Passkeys Wallet, you must always have access to the passkey you created the wallet with.
When you create a passkey, you secure it with the same Face ID, Touch ID, PIN, or password you use to secure your device. To access your passkey on other devices, you often need the same authentication method.
When creating a passkey, be aware of which service you use and its recovery process. Once you create a passkey, make sure you never delete it.
Keep in mind that although many passkey management systems support automatic backup, some, in particular Windows, only store the passkey locally on your device.
If a passkey is only stored locally on your device, you cannot recover it if you lose access to the device or reinstall its operating system.
Exodus will not be able to aid in recovering your wallet if you lose access to your passkey or Face ID, Touch ID, PIN, or password.
To be safe, always have a backup method to access your funds. You can view your private keys in Passkeys Wallet and store them in a password manager or write them down on paper.
What if my device doesn't support passkey backup?
If your device or operating system (e.g., Windows) only supports storing a passkey locally, you can:
Back up your wallet by writing down your Passkeys Wallet private keys.
Create a passkey on a mobile device that supports passkey backups. Then, on your other device, select that you already have a wallet and want to sign in with a QR code. Scan the QR code with your mobile device to log in with the passkey.
Is Passkeys Wallet safe?
Passkeys Wallet is a self-custodial wallet. Your private keys are generated locally and encrypted to create a passkey, which only you can access. Exodus provides the encryption key but never accesses your private keys.
This means that your wallet's information is private, but it also means that the security of your wallet depends on how safe you keep your passkey and private keys.
Make sure you know where your passkey is stored. Use strong and secure passwords. Only access your wallet from devices you trust.
If you view your Passkeys Wallet's private keys, keep them safe and secret. Never share them, as having a private key lets you spend that asset.
Does Passkeys Wallet have a secret recovery phrase?
Passkeys Wallet does not have a secret recovery phrase.
To access your Passkeys Wallet, you need the passkey and the Face ID, Touch ID, PIN, or password that secures it.
You can write down any private keys containing funds as a backup.
Does Passkeys Wallet have access to biometrics data or passwords?
No, Passkeys Wallet cannot access or store any authentication method used to secure your device and passkey.
This includes biometrics data like Face ID and Touch ID, or your PIN or password.
Are my device and browser supported?
Where your passkey is stored depends on your device and operating system.
Passkeys are supported by various operating systems such as Android, iOS, and macOS when you use supported browsers such as Google Chrome and Safari.

Other ways to manage passkeys: Passkeys are available on most devices. If you have a device that supports passkeys, you will likely be able to use Passkeys Wallet. Depending on your device and operating system, you might also be able to store and manage passkeys with other password managers.
Can I use my Passkeys Wallet on multiple devices?
Your passkey will automatically sync to any other device using the same passkey manager. For example, if you're logged in with the same Apple ID, iOS and Mac will automatically share passkeys.
Password managers allow you to sync and use the same wallet across all platforms and devices it supports.
Can I use my Passkeys Wallet on multiple browsers?
Generally, if you switch between different browsers, you can continue to use the same wallet seamlessly.
However, the browser needs to support the webauthn specification, which has good adoption across all major browsers.
