What does syncing my wallet mean?

Syncing your wallet means having the same Exodus wallet on multiple devices. You can have your wallet on each device by pairing your existing funded wallet with an empty wallet.

Mobile

How do I sync Exodus Mobile to a different mobile device?

The following guide explains how to use a QR code to sync your funded Exodus mobile wallet to a new empty mobile wallet.

During the sync process, the QR code temporarily encrypts your secret recovery phrase. As such, it is crucial never to share your QR code with anyone, as they might be able to access your wallet and the funds in it. Exodus staff will never ask for your sync QR code.

To learn more about wallet security, visit:

  1. In your funded Mobile wallet, a) tap the Profile icon, then b) tap Settings.

  2. Tap Sync Devices.

  3. If you have a passcode set for your wallet, you will be prompted to enter it.

  4. Tap on the option Mobile or Tablet.

  5. After reading the warning to beware of scams, tap Allow.

  6. The QR code will appear. You'll need to scan it later to sync your wallet.

    • Never share your QR code, because anyone with it might be able to access your wallet. Exodus staff will never ask for your sync QR code.

    • The QR code will not be shown if there are no funds in the wallet. If you want to sync an empty wallet, you can use the secret recovery phrase to restore the wallet on another mobile device.

  7. On your second mobile device, open your empty wallet. Tap I Have a Wallet.

  8. Tap QR Code.

  9. Tap Mobile or Tablet.

  10. Tap Allow.

  11. The camera will open. Scan the QR code of the funded wallet to begin syncing.

  12. After scanning the QR code, you'll be asked to confirm the sync request. a) Check that the words shown on both devices match. b) Tap Confirm on the mobile device you are syncing from. This will start the sync process.

  13. Once you see Syncing Successful, tap Continue & Restart.

After the restart completes, you will have access to the same wallet on both devices.


How do I sync Exodus Mobile to Exodus Desktop?

The following guide explains how to sync your funded Exodus mobile wallet to an empty desktop wallet using the QR code.

It is strongly recommended to perform a malware scan on any desktop (computer or laptop) you intend to use. If you sync your wallet to a compromised device, you could lose your crypto.

During the sync process, the QR code temporarily encrypts your secret recovery phrase. As such, it is crucial never to share your QR code with anyone, as they might be able to access your wallet and the funds in it. Exodus staff will never ask for your sync QR code.

  11. After scanning the QR code, you'll be asked to confirm the sync request by a) checking that the words shown on both devices match. b) Tap Confirm on the mobile device you are syncing from. This will begin the syncing process.

  12. Once you see Sync Successful, click Restart.

After the restart completes, you will have access to the same wallet on both devices.


Desktop

How do I sync Exodus Desktop to a different desktop device?

These steps are for a new empty Exodus wallet you have just downloaded onto a desktop computer.

It is strongly recommended to perform a malware scan on any desktop (computer or laptop) you intend to use. If you sync with a wallet on a compromised device, you could lose your crypto.

  1. First, you will need to find the secret recovery phrase for your desktop wallet.​

    Your secret recovery phrase controls your funds, so it is important to keep it secret. Anyone with your secret recovery phrase will have access to your funds, so don’t share it with anyone, including Exodus Support.

  2. Next, open your empty Exodus wallet on the computer and restore it with your secret recovery phrase.

Exodus will restore your desktop wallet to your new computer.


How do I sync Exodus Desktop to Exodus Mobile?

The following guide explains how to use a QR code to sync your funded Exodus desktop wallet to a new mobile wallet that does not hold crypto.

During the sync process, the QR code temporarily encrypts your secret recovery phrase. As such, it is crucial never to share your QR code with anyone, as they might be able to access your wallet and the funds in it. Exodus staff will never ask for your sync QR code.

  1. In Exodus Desktop, a) click on the Settings icon in the top right corner. b) Navigate to the Devices tab and c) click Sync.

  2. a) Enter your password (if you have one set), then b) click Unlock Now.

  4. You'll be shown your sync QR code. You'll need to scan this QR code later to sync your wallets.

You can sync your desktop or mobile wallet to Exodus Web3 Wallet by using your secret recovery phrase.

  • If you sync an existing wallet to the Web3 Wallet, only assets on supported networks will be shown in Web3 Wallet.

  • It is strongly recommended to perform a malware scan on any desktop (computer or laptop) you intend to use. If you sync with a wallet on a compromised device, you could lose your crypto.

    Your secret recovery phrase controls your funds, so it is important to keep it secret. Anyone with your secret recovery phrase will have access to your funds, so don’t share it with anyone, including Exodus Support!

  2. Next, open up your empty Exodus Desktop or Mobile wallet and restore your wallet with the secret recovery phrase:


Troubleshooting

My device has a camera, but scanning doesn't work. What should I do?

If you don't see the option to scan the QR code with your device's camera, it's because your wallet already contains funds.

Instead, you will be shown the sync QR code for that wallet. Remember, you can only sync a funded wallet with an empty wallet.

In this case, you can send all of your crypto from one wallet to the other ensuring only one wallet has crypto in it, then follow the relevant steps above!


My device doesn’t have a camera. What should I do?

If your current computer does not have a webcam or camera, you can still sync your wallets using your funded wallet's secret recovery phrase.

Make sure you have absolutely no crypto inside of Exodus on the computer without a webcam you are trying to sync to. This process will overwrite your current Exodus wallet on this device.

  1. First, you will need to find your funded wallet's secret recovery phrase.

  2. Next, open up the empty Exodus wallet on your computer without a webcam or camera and restore with your secret recovery phrase.

Exodus will restore your funded wallet.
