What was the MATIC to POL migration?

On September 4, 2024, Polygon migrated the MATIC token to the new POL token, and POL became the new main asset of the Polygon network.

This migration from MATIC to POL was spurred by the Polygon community's recommendation to improve the utility of the network's main asset.

What happened to my Polygon (MATIC) tokens?

Depending on which network you held MATIC on during the migration, your MATIC tokens either automatically migrated to POL, or you'll need to manually swap your MATIC tokens if you want the new POL token.

As of now, there is no deadline for when to migrate to POL. However, the Polygon community could change this in the future.

MATIC on Polygon

If you held MATIC on the Polygon network on September 4, 2024, all your MATIC was automatically migrated to the new Polygon (POL) token on the Polygon network.

In Exodus, you can see your POL tokens on Polygon in your Polygon (POL) wallet.

MATIC on Ethereum

After the September 4, 2024 migration, Polygon launched the new Polygon Ecosystem Token (POL) on the Ethereum network.

In Exodus, if you held MATIC on Ethereum during the migration, your tokens did not automatically migrate to the new POL token.

Instead, the old MATIC token and the new POL token will exist on the Ethereum networks as separate tokens.

Exodus supports both the old MATIC token and the new Polygon Ecosystem Token (POL) on Ethereum.

If you currently hold MATIC tokens on Ethereum and want to migrate your tokens, you can use Exodus Swap and swap to the POL token on either the Polygon network or the Ethereum network.

Currently, there is no deadline for when to migrate to POL. However, the Polygon community could change this in the future.

Please note that Exodus only supports Polygon staking with the MATIC token on Ethereum. Exodus does not support staking the POL token on Ethereum.

Staked MATIC on Ethereum

If you staked MATIC before or after the migration, you can continue to stake MATIC with your Exodus wallet and earn rewards as normal.

This is because, after the migration to POL, the Polygon network maintains backward compatibility with staking the MATIC token on Ethereum.

When you unstake your MATIC or claim rewards, the claim withdrawal will be MATIC on Ethereum.

Exodus does not support staking the POL token on Ethereum.
