What is a memo or destination tag?
A memo or destination tag is a short string of letters or numbers used to identify a transaction so the funds are credited to the correct account.
Exchanges with many customers often use one shared wallet address. To make sure deposits go to the right person, customers include a memo or destination tag when sending funds.
If you are sending crypto to another non-custodial wallet, you do not need to enter a memo or destination tag.

Where do I enter a memo or destination tag when sending funds from Exodus?
When sending certain assets from your Exodus wallet, you may need to include a memo or destination tag. This information makes sure your funds arrive safely in the correct account.
Here’s how to enter a memo or destination tag on Mobile, Desktop. and Web3 Wallet.
Mobile

Go to the wallet of the crypto that you want to send with a memo or destination tag, then tap the Send button.
a) Enter the amount you wish to send, and b) tap Continue.
a) Tap to paste the receiving address, or b) use the QR scanner to scan the receive address QR code.

Tapping the Destination Tag button will automatically paste whatever is in your phone's clipboard. If you want to enter the destination tag manually, then long-press the Destination Tag button until your keyboard pops up. Remember to always double-check that the Destination Tag you enter is correct.

If you don't enter a memo or destination tag, you'll see a warning that some exchanges and wallets will require one. a) Tap Add to go back and add a memo or destination tag, or b) swipe down if you want to continue without.
Some exchanges and wallets require a memo or destination tag to receive crypto in the correct account.a) Confirm the details are correct, including the memo or destination tag, then b) slide the arrow on Slide to Send.

Next, enter the amount you want to send.
To send your funds, click Send.
Web3 Wallet
Go to the wallet of the crypto that you want to send with a memo or destination tag, then tap Send.
Algorand is currently the only asset in Exodus Web3 Wallet that has a memo feature. The memo field is for making a zero-ALGO transaction to sign up for or vote in an Algorand governance period. a) Enter the recipient's ALGO address, b) enter the memo, then c) enter the amount you wish to send, and click Continue.
a) Double-check the memo is correct. If everything looks good, b) click Send.
What memo or destination tag should I use when sending to Exodus?
Exodus creates a unique wallet address for every user, so you do not need to include a memo or destination tag when sending funds to Exodus.
If the wallet or exchange you are sending from requires a memo or tag, you can enter anything you like. For XRP (XRP), only numbers are accepted. For EOS (EOS) and Stellar Lumens (XLM), you can enter letters or numbers.
As long as you enter your correct Exodus wallet address, your funds will arrive safely.
What can I do if I have sent funds from Exodus without a memo or destination tag?
If you sent funds without a required memo or destination tag and do not see them in the receiving wallet or exchange, you will need to contact the receiving wallet or exchange directly. Once the funds have left your Exodus wallet, there is nothing Exodus can do to recover them.
Contact the receiving wallet owner, exchange, or support team with your transaction ID and ask them to verify and manually credit your deposit. Be aware that some wallets and exchanges may not offer recovery options.
