Merchants use Exodus Checkout to accept stablecoin payments. When you buy something or subscribe to a service, the merchant may redirect you to a secure Exodus payment page where you can pay with a crypto wallet.
In this article:
What do I need to pay with Exodus Checkout?
To use Exodus Checkout, you need a crypto wallet and a supported stablecoin.
You can pay with wallets such as Exodus, MetaMask, Phantom, or any wallet that supports stablecoins on the networks the merchant accepts.
For subscriptions or recurring payments, your wallet also needs to support web3 connections so you can connect and approve permissions to start the subscription.
Which stablecoins can I pay with?
Exodus Checkout supports USDC and USDT on the Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, and BSC networks.
Each merchant chooses which stablecoins and networks they accept. A merchant may accept some or all of them.
How do I make a one-time payment?
To make a one-time payment, you can manually send funds to the deposit address or connect your wallet.
Select Exodus Checkout as your payment method.
If multiple stablecoins or networks are available, select which ones you want to use.
On the payment screen, you can select between stablecoins and networks using the dropdown menu above the QR code.
Complete the payment in one of the following ways:
a) Send funds directly to the deposit address: You can pay by sending the funds to the deposit QR code or address shown at checkout. Make sure you're sending the exact amount, stablecoin, and network as shown on the payment page. After sending, wait for the page to register the payment. It will update once it's complete.
b) Connect your wallet to approve the payment: If your wallet supports web3 connections, connect your wallet on the payment page to see a request to approve the transfer.

If you connected your wallet, a) you'll be prompted to confirm the stablecoin and network you want to pay with. b) Tap or click on Other options to view all the supported stablecoins and networks.

Tap or click Pay and approve the request with your connected wallet.

Sending stablecoins will incur a network transaction fee, paid in the network's main asset.
If you send the wrong amount, token, or use the wrong network, contact the merchant. However, please note that recovery may not always be possible.
How do I start a subscription?
When you start a subscription with Exodus Checkout, you use your wallet to approve a one-time permission that lets the merchant charge you on an ongoing basis.
Subscriptions require a wallet that supports web3 connections.
Exodus Mobile and Desktop do not support web3 connections so cannot be used to start a subscription.
During checkout, select Exodus Checkout as your payment method.
On the payment page, connect your wallet by either a) scanning the QR to connect with your wallet, or, b) if your wallet is on the same device, select Connect Wallet.

Once your wallet is connected, a) select which stablecoin and network you want to pay with. b) Tap or click on Other options to view all the supported stablecoins and networks.

Before continuing, a) review the maximum amount the merchant can charge you for the subscription. To continue, select Approve, then approve the request with your connected wallet.

Next, to approve the first payment and start the subscription, select Subscribe, then approve the request with your connected wallet.
Approving the subscription permissions will incur a network transaction fee, paid in the network's main asset. Once approved, there's no further network fees when the merchant charges you for the subscription.
How do subscription spending limits work?
When you start a subscription, the permissions you approve include two limits that decide how much the merchant can charge you:
The maximum amount they can charge you in a single payment
The maximum total amount they can charge within the billing period
The merchant can charge you multiple times within the billing period, as long as the total doesn't exceed these limits. After the subscription is started, the merchant can't increase the limits.
What happens if a subscription payment fails?
A failed payment does not cancel your subscription.
If a payment fails, your subscription remains active, and the merchant can still charge you in the future.
Contact the merchant if you want to retry the payment or have any questions about the subscription.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Check the merchant's platform or account settings for an option to cancel your subscription. If you can't find the option to cancel, contact the merchant directly.
You can also revoke the subscription spend permissions from your wallet, so the merchant can no longer charge you. This requires a wallet that supports revoking web3 permissions, or a web3 tool such as Revoke.cash.
Merchants can also cancel a subscription on their end. They might do so on request, due to payment issues, or if they stop the service.
How long does it take for my payment to confirm?
After you make a payment, it needs to be confirmed on the blockchain. This usually takes a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the network.
Depending on the merchant, your payment may be complete as soon as it is confirmed on the blockchain. In other cases, the funds are held until the merchant confirms the order, which completes the payment.
Some payments may be held for review before processing. If the payment is taking longer than expected, contact the merchant.
How do refunds work?
Refunds are handled by the merchant. Contact the merchant directly to request a refund.
There is no chargeback process as with a credit card, because stablecoin payments are irreversible once confirmed on the blockchain.
If you're receiving a refund, confirm with the merchant which address to receive the refund with. Double-check that the address can receive the funds. If you paid using an exchange account, the address that sent the transaction might not always accept incoming funds, such as a refund.
How does currency conversion work?
If you're making a payment priced in US dollars, there's no conversion, and you'll be charged that same amount in USDC or USDT.
If the payment is priced in a currency other than USD, the amount is converted to its USD equivalent, and you pay that amount in USDC or USDT.
What do I do if my checkout has expired?
The checkout will expire if the payment isn't completed within the specified time. If it expires, go back and start again with a new payment.
Do not send the payment if the checkout has expired. If you accidentally sent funds after it expired, contact the merchant.
Where can I find a receipt for my payment?
Receipts for your payment are issued by the merchant. Check their platform or contact them if you need help getting a copy of your receipt.
Since USDC and USDT transactions happen on the blockchain, you can check the transaction status using the network's block explorer. To learn more, visit: How do I find transaction information on a block explorer?
Who do I contact if I need more help?
For any questions or issues, please contact the merchant that handles your order directly.
