What is Hedera?

The Hedera network is a blockchain platform designed to let users send and receive HBAR tokens quickly and securely.

Hedera is built for speed, fairness, and security, supporting thousands of transactions per second with low energy use.

This performance is made possible by its unique hashgraph consensus algorithm, which allows the network to reach agreement faster and more efficiently than traditional blockchains.

How do I create a new Hedera account?

To send or receive HBAR, the Hedera network requires you to have a Hedera account.

Exodus creates one for you automatically, and it’s free!

Your Hedera account is created the first time you receive HBAR in your Exodus wallet. Once it's set up, you can start sending and receiving HBAR right away.

Mobile

  1. First, enable the Hedera wallet.

  2. In your Hedera wallet, tap on the Receive button on the right side of your wallet.

  3. Tap Create New Account and follow the on-screen prompts.

You will see a screen saying that the creation was successful. You can now send and receive HBAR tokens in Exodus!

How do I import my Hedera account?

If you already have a Hedera account on another platform, you can import that account into your Exodus wallet!

Hedera accounts can only be linked to one public key at a time. When you import your account into Exodus, it will be disconnected from the original platform. To use it there again, you'll need to re-import it back.

  1. First, enable the Hedera wallet.

  2. In your Hedera wallet, tap on the Receive button on the right side of your wallet.

  3. Tap I Already Have an Account.

You have two options:

  1. Re-import your Hedera account into Exodus: This will unlink it from the other service and restore it in your Exodus wallet.

  2. Reset your Hedera account in Exodus: This removes the account from Exodus but leaves it active in the other wallet or service. To do this, a) go to your Hedera wallet, b) click on the More menu in the top right corner, and c) click Reset Account.

How do I find my Hedera account private key or secret key?

To find your Hedera private key, follow this guide:

To view your Hedera secret key, use the same guide you would for Exodus. Your Exodus secret key is also your Hedera key:

What happens if I send HBAR to an unsupported address?

If you accidentally send HBAR or HBAR tokens to your Exodus Ethereum address or other EVM-based asset, your funds will be permanently lost. These networks are not compatible, and transactions sent to an Ethereum EVM address cannot be recovered with your private keys or 12-word secret key.

This could happen because each Hedera (HBAR) account also has a linked EVM address, which you can view on block explorers such as hashscan.io.

However, this Hedera-linked EVM address is different from your Exodus Ethereum EVM address. It can be easy to confuse the two, because they look the same, but they are not interchangeable.

Your Exodus Ethereum EVM address is used only for ETH and other EVM-based assets and is not connected to your HBAR account.
