What is the Rootstock ecosystem?

The Rootstock ecosystem is everything built on the Rootstock (RSK) network. It consists of Rootstock Smart Bitcoin (RBTC), DEXs, DeFi dApps, and other web3 apps.

Rootstock is a smart contract platform built as a side-chain to the Bitcoin blockchain. It aims to bring smart contracts and decentralized applications to Bitcoin. The Rootstock network went live on January 2018.

If you're looking for blockchain data, you can use RSK explorer, one of the most popular block explorers for Rootstock.

While participating in the Rootstock ecosystem, you will need Smart Bitcoin (RBTC) to cover the gas fees to fuel your transactions. These fees can vary depending on the type of transaction and how busy the network is.

From using smart contracts to participating in DeFi dApps, here is an introduction to everything you can do on Rootstock.

What is Rootstock Smart Bitcoin (RBTC)?

Rootstock Smart Bitcoin (RBTC) is the primary asset of the Rootstock network. You can convert Bitcoin (BTC) to RBTC, which can be used to interact with smart contracts and web3 Apps on the Rootstock network.

With the Rootstock network, you can convert BTC to RBTC at a 1:1 rate. See the guide below to learn how.

You can also acquire RBTC through a centralized exchange where RBTC is listed. You can view a list of markets that carry RBTC in CoinMarketCap.

Once you have acquired RBTC, you can use it on the Rootstock network and interact with smart contracts and web3 apps.

How do I connect to Rootstock dApps and web3 apps?

First of all, what are dApps and web3 apps? They're like any other app, except they're built using blockchain technology like smart contracts. Instead of signing in with a username and password, you connect with a crypto wallet.

All dApps are web3 apps, but not all web3 apps are decentralized, so 'web3 app' is the umbrella term used for any app you connect to with a crypto wallet. If you'd like to learn more, visit: What are dApps and web3 apps?

You can connect to Rootstock web3 apps with the browser-based Exodus Web3 Wallet!

The Rootstock network is a relatively new chain, and there aren't as many web3 apps compared to other networks, such as Ethereum.

You can connect and explore without any funds in your wallet. But if you want to interact with web3 apps, you'll need some Rootstock Smart Bitcoin (RBTC) in your wallet to pay transaction fees, also known as gas.
